Recently, the market for dietary supplements in the beauty category has developed extremely dynamically. In our society, we attach more and more importance to well-groomed and healthy skin, hair and nails. There are more and more dietary supplements on the market for skin care from the inside. But do they really work? And which of them can really support skin care and in what form?
One of the most important factors responsible for the health of our skin is the right diet. This should be rich in ingredients that nourish our skin, such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and many others. Often skin changes can be a sign of a lack of important nutrients in our body.
In addition to traditional skin care from the outside using special cosmetic products, care from the inside is proving to be just as important. This has been proven by numerous clinical studies carried out by a growing number of manufacturers and distributors of nutritional supplements. Maintaining adequate skin hydration, regenerating the skin, reducing wrinkles and improving skin lustre are just some of the scientifically proven benefits of using supplements from the beauty category.
Which ingredients are in demand? Collagen is an important building protein of the human body. Marine collagen-based products are becoming increasingly popular, mainly due to their high purity, 100% natural origin and better bioavailability than gelatine. Our collagen has a neutral taste and is easily soluble, so it can be taken daily in combination with water, juice or yoghurt.
Another extremely effective substance is vitamin E, particularly in the form of a mixture of tocotrienols and tocopherols. Every day we are exposed to harmful factors such as UV rays or polluted air, which cause oxidative stress in our skin. Vitamin E helps to protect cells from oxidative stress. The above-mentioned form of vitamin E has been investigated in studies1,2 , which can be made available on request.
Eggshell membrane is a very interesting source of nutrients. It contains a considerable amount of cysteine-rich proteins. In addition to cysteine, eggshell membrane also contains collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin. Components that are also found in human skin, hair and nails.
Our skin, like our gut, is an environment full of both beneficial and harmful microorganisms. If this balance is disturbed, negative changes in the body can occur. Skin changes such as acne, pimples, discolouration or peeling of the skin, for which topical preparations are not effective, can have their origin in our gut.
The topic of skin, hair and nail care should be approached holistically by looking after the condition of the skin not only from the outside, but also from the inside. The skin is an important protective barrier against harmful external factors and we should take care of it.
