The beneficial effects of lavender were already known in ancient times, and the delicately fragrant, lilac-coloured medicinal plant from the Mediterranean region is still used today in modern medicine to treat inner restlessness, insomnia, and anxiety.

Lavender is rich in various active substances such as:

  • Essential oils
  • Tannins
  • Flavonoids
  • Phenylcarboxylic acids

Our partner EPO Srl. has developed Lavandula angustifolia Mill., a lavender extract containing 8% polyphenols that has proved effective against mild anxiety and insomnia.

The dry extract Lavandula angustifolia Mill. was tested on a human adrenocortical carcinoma cell line. This is an in-vitro model commonly used to study the mechanism of action of molecules that exhibit anti-anxiety action. The results show that Lavandula angustifolia Mill. significantly inhibits the release of the most important endogenous stress hormone cortisol.
