Coatings made with expanded microspheres can reduce energy consumption for heating, ventilation and air conditioning by up to 40%.

With the strong movement towards sustainable measures, such solutions can’t come at a better time.
These microspheres can be used to create economical and “green” solutions.

Microspheres are microscopic, hollow beads about 20–40 µm in size. They are lightweight, gas-filled thermoplastic spheres, which have already been used successfully for many years as lightweight fillers in paints and coatings.

They can remarkably improve functionality and quality, especially in elastomeric (waterproof) wall and roof paints.

Expanded hollow microspheres offer the following properties and advantages:

  • Microspheres are lightweight fillers that have little need for binders, without any compromise on the quality of the coating. This results in clear economic benefits.
  • Expanded hollow microspheres are highly elastic and withstand strong mechanical forces without damage. Their flexibility allows them to increase PVC (pigment volume concentration) without impairing coat elasticity.
  • Mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate increase the thermal conductivity of the coat – but the expanded hollow microspheres from our production partner reduce it and thus significantly improve heat insulation.
  • Adding hollow microspheres also improves vapor permeability.
  • Expanded microspheres reflect sunlight extremely well in the visible and especially in the NIR range. This improves the durability of wall and roof coatings, helping to keep the building cool under strong sunshine.
