LOXIOL® AF 90 – a new internal antifogging agent for polyolefins

LOXIOL® AF 90 is a new internal antifogging agent from our partner EMERY OLEOCHEMICALS. It has been developed specifically for use in polyolefins, in particular polypropylene and HDPE/LDPE/LLDPE.
 
When water condensation occurs on food packaging or on greenhouse films, for example, antifogging agents prevent the formation of individual water droplets, and favour the formation of a continuous water film instead. When this water film forms over the surface, it restores the polymer film’s transparency. Being an internal additive, LOXIOL® AF 90 is distributed uniformly throughout the entire polymer matrix, and not only on the polymer surface. If the antifogging agent on the surface becomes compromised, the internal additive shows its advantage by compensating for this loss with its reservoir action.

To demonstrate the excellent product performance, EMERY OLEOCHEMICALS tested LOXIOL® AF 90 in comparison with glycerol monooleate (GMO) and other products available on the market in terms of antifogging action and thermal stability.
The antifogging action of a PP homopolymer and PP random copolymer film were studied in a hot and cold fogging test, and evaluated by virtue of the reference photos below at various times (1 min to 30 min).
